Voice of Fire is a top down triangular shawl, worked from the nape of the neck outwards in three sections. The first two sections use the same winding motif that reminds me of flickering flame. Following an idea found in a Japanese stitch dictionary, these sections explore what happens when a motif is worked on every row, vs every alternate row. Thus, the first section has patterning on both knit and purl rows, while the second section has patterning only on the knit rows. The third section transitions into a motif representing “summer,” that season of light, heat, and fire.

Materials Needed:

• 2 skeins (@600 yards) Cascade Yarns® Venezia Sport
• 4mm (US 6) needles long enough to accommodate 327 stitches Optional:
• 3-4 stitch markers to mark garter stitch edges and central knit spine stitch
• 20 additional markers to mark stitch repeats if desired
• 272 4/0 beads
• small crochet hook for placing beads

A note on gauge:
Gauge given in the pattern is 24 sts and 32 rows in unblocked stocking stitch. However, I do not consider gauge to be vital for a shawl; it is better to achieve a fabric you like. Be aware that if your gauge is much larger than called for, you will need more yarn.
