Vulture Throw Crochet Pattern

Vulture is a cheeky afghan throw for those who love to weave in lots of tails. It was designed to use one skein Lion Brand Pound of Love for the main colour, and about a third of a skein for the lettering. The whole body is made in HDC. The optional border is made of SC, DC, and 5-DC shells.

If you dislike weaving in ends as much as I do, this would be a great candidate for sewing a backing onto. Instructions for this are not provided.

Finished object with the border is 35” wide by 45” long after gentle blocking. Pattern made with StitchFiddle software.

Sample was made using bobbins and many mid-row colour changes. If you choose to carry the yarn, the yarn estimates may be significantly off. I have not included instructions for using bobbins or changing colours mid-row. This may not be a good pattern to learn on because there are a LOT of colour changes.

Materials:

  • 5.5 mm hook
  • One skein Lion Brand Pound of Love in Olive, and roughly a third of a skein in Antique White, or comparable #4 weight yarn.
  • Finishing needle

Stitches (American terminology):

FHDC foundation half double crochet (optional, can substitute a simple starting chain)
Ch chain
HDC half double crochet
DC double crochet (border only)
SC single crochet (border only)
