Waffle Hat
The versatile Waffle hat pattern is an ideal blend of a fully written pattern for one size and customizable instructions for any yarn and size.
Options:
Fully Written Instructions:
Fits 53-58 cm head circumference (most adult heads).
Customized Pattern:
Choose any yarn and size, no math needed!
Excel spreadsheet for calculations.
Swatch required for best results (optional for experienced knitters).
Customization Options:
Stitches: Replace twisted purl stitches with regular purl stitches if preferred.
Fit: Choose between fitted or slouchy.
Color: One or two-color version.
Cast On: One or two-color version.
Finishing: With or without pom pom.
Both written instructions and charts provided, including a link to a video tutorial on two-color cast on.
Yarn:
The design is made in 2 colors, but looks great in one color as well.
Option 1: Sample made from Himalaya Everyday Bebe Lux (worsted, but could be sport or light DK).
1 skein = approx. 100 grams / 3.53 ounces, 250 meters / 273 yards
Color A: Beige, 10 grams, 25 m / 27 yds
Color B: Brown, 50 grams, 125 m / 137 yds
Option 2: Choose yarn based on preference.
The amount needed depends on yarn thickness and hat size (generally 70-150 grams).
Needles & Notions:
Option 1:
Circular needle, size 3 mm / US2.5, 40 cm / 16” for the brim
Circular needle, size 4.5 mm / US7, 40 cm / 16” for the hat body
For crown shaping: DPNs, two circulars, or magic loop technique
Option 2:
Smaller circular for the brim, 40 cm / 16” (standard for chosen yarn category).
2-4 sizes bigger circular for the hat body, 40 cm / 16”.

Gauge:
Option 1:
Sample gauge (10 cm / 4”): 27 stitches, worked in the pattern used for the brim with 3 mm / US2.5 needle.
Gauge in st st (10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4”): 26 sts, 36 rows.
Option 2:
Full tutorial for swatch provided, including Excel calculation model – no math needed!
Swatch is required for the best result but may be skipped by experienced knitters.
