Waiting for Baby
I designed this just prior to the birth of my 4th child. My husband said: “It’s actually quite useful” (so it must be!). There are no seams whatsoever; it is knit from top (including the neckline detail) to bottom. It fulfilled my need for something practical and really quick to knit.
Reminded of late by how fast babies can grow (my new son more than doubled his 7½lb/3.4kg birth weight in his first 3 months!), I have sized the pattern for newborn babies as well as a slightly more spacious version to cater for the 0-3 month age range. In addition, it is sized for 3-6 months and 6-12 months.
There are instructions to make this as either a sleeveless vest, or a sweater (with sleeves).
Designed for worsted weight yarn.
Approximate yardage:
140(160:180:230) yds for sleeveless vest
185(215:245:300) yds for sweater (with sleeves)
Requires: 4½mm (US 7) straight and circular knitting needles, and dpns (or size to obtain gauge); stitch markers (4); stitch holders or waste yarn (for sweater only).
The straight needles are only used for casting on, and most of the knitting is with circular needles; the dpns are just used for the neckband and optional sleeves.
