Walker's Elegant Ribbing
This beautiful stitch pattern is from Barbara G. Walker’s Charted Knitting Designs (her Third Treasury book). I developed an afghan strip from it. I added garter stitch edges and added 2 more rows for an even more vertical look. The stitch pattern is only 4 stitches wide! There are 16 pattern rows but 13 of them are just knit and purl! No cable needle needed: Barbara’s pattern uses twist stitches. In her book, Barbara explains 2 versions for each right and left twist stitches and also shows a chart (but no row instructions) for the stitch pattern. See her book for more information.
Skills: cast on, knit, purl, slip, right twist stitch, left twist stitch and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread and needle size will work. Make a swatch to check for size and appearance.
Yardage: 11 yards will make 1 inch of a 26-stitch-wide strip in the stated gauge
