This is by far the most complex garment I’ve ever made. It is a hoodie with sleeves, pockets and a hood. It has a tapestry crochet design. The idea is a cat has tipped over some paint pots and then tracked colourful paw prints everywhere. You can follow the paw prints from the pots, up the back, over the shoulder onto the chest, then onto the hood, the chest, a sleeve, onto the back again, across to the tummy, across a pocket, onto the back and then to the cat ☺

The hoodie is made with a 4mm hook and 8 ply wool. I made it my size (thin with long arms). The pattern is drawn on graph paper and is so big I don’t have a table big enough for it so I always had to lay it on the floor.

When you look at the photos, P written inside a paw print means pink and G means green. There are some light squiggles, which is are just there to help me work stuff out. There are also some little lines, which I used to mark when I’d completed a line and arrows to mark the direction I crocheted in. You can ignore them. Although the pattern for the pockets is shown overlaid on the front panels they are obviously separate pieces, I just wanted to show how they should be positioned. The hood with three paw prints is the right side. The left side has four paw prints. There is a little note on the hoodie saying “+ 10 more blank rows”. That’s because I figured out after I’d already drawn the pattern that the hood was a bit short. So once you finish the tapestry paw prints just add on 10 more rows in addition to those that are shown on the pattern to make sure the hood is big enough. The hood is quite a lot wider than the neck so you will need to sew maybe two stiches of hood for maybe each stitch of neck when attaching them. The left sleeve has three paw prints. The other sleeve is identical but blank. Obviously you need to sew an open ended zip on once you finish so that you can close the hoodie. If you need more help you could leave a comment on my website and I could see if I can give better instructions/photos.
