I originally designed a crochet version of this scarf for an LOTR fan. A bucket-list roadtrip inspired me to try a knit version.

The good news is that there are only 29 rows where you need to follow the pattern. All the other rows are just knit straight across. The bad news, each row is 281 stitches long.

I knit it on a 40” circular needle and the stitches were a bit cramped. You may want to use a 60” circular.

The pattern is worked in the same mosaic overlay garter stitch I used for “Mom’s Puzzling Scarf”. There’s a tutorial with a practice swatch and step by step photos at the end of that pattern. Just the abbreviated steps for the stitch are included in this pattern.

The chart in this pattern is too long to fit on a single page and is broken into sections. I’ve also shared the code I use for charting on GitHub here:
https://krubal3.github.io/MosaicOverlayCharts/
And, if you like, you can use that code to view a scrollable version of the chart in one piece. There’s more info at the end of this pattern.

Happy Adventuring!
