Wanna Build A Snowman?
We don’t often get snow in Tokyo and my boys were speculating if they’d be able to build a snowman this year. So it inspired me to make a snowman stack amigurumi toy that they could play with any time they want. Then it occurred to me it could be a game too! It’s perfect for toddlers or foreign language learners but it can be fun for adults too. Suitable for 1 to 6 players, just make enough clothing pieces for each color on your dice and let the fun begin.
Suggested game play:
Each player gets a 3 piece snowman set to begin game play. The colored dice can be rolled to determine each player’s building goal as an assigned color or it can be left to be randomly decided (and possibly changed) during game play. There will need to be 6 colored clothing accessory sets according to the colors on the dice. For the first turn, each player will roll all 3 dice and put the corresponding colored accessory on their snowman. If another player already has the needed accessory, the current player can “steal” the clothing piece from the other player. For the second and each additional turn, the player can chose to roll one, two, or all 3 dice but they must put the corresponding color of clothing piece on their snowman. If they don’t want to change one of their accessories, they simply do not roll that dice during their turn. However, another player may need to “steal” that piece from them during their own turn. Game play ends when one player manages to have all three of their accessories the same color.
I used about 50g of #4 medium worsted weight white acrylic yarn for the main body. I used a 3.0 mm hook.
The snowman measures 7” (18 cm) tall when fully assembled.
Gauge is not important but make sure you use the appropriate hook for the yarn weight.

Optional additional materials:
For this piece I used plastic canvas grid, thin plastic cutting board sheet, glue sticks, and flat glass floral beads for weight. I would highly recommend using these materials or similar to achieve a sturdy toy.
One of my testers did not use additional materials and it worked well with just polyfill.
