War and Peace
The War and Peace shawl is the second shawl in The Tolstoy Collection. These shawls showcase one, two, and three colors and will feature large sections of garter while interspersing different textures, shapes, or color play.
The War and Peace shawl uses fairly mindless knitting and contrasting skeins to result in bold color play. Varying solid and stripey sections change just often enough to hold interest, yet the “garter on cruise control” makes for a relaxing project. The dramatic V-shape sits easily on shoulders so the shawl can function as a statement piece without a lot of styling fuss. Because of the shawl’s clean lines, any yarn dye technique is fair game, even gradients. Or knit in your favorite team colors! Easily adaptable to any yardage – just knit to the halfway point as weighed on a gram scale, then work the second half.
Skills: simple increases, decreases, and striped colorwork.
Yarn: 2 skeins sport weight yarn in contrasting colors, at least 350 yards/320 m each to get the size shown in the sample. However, pattern includes instructions for adapting to different yardages.
Sample shown in Dandelion Yarns Rosy Sport, 100% merino, 350 yards/320 m per 3.5 oz/100 g, colorways Thunder and New Yolk.
