War Bride Baby Booties
Discontinued.
This digital pattern is no longer available online.
This pattern was reverse engineered from a pair of baby booties that my friend showed me. Her mother had knit them for her in England in the 1940’s and she had worn them on her baby feet on the boat to America. The originals have tiny name tags sewn into them in order to eliminate confusion in the wash room on the voyage over. I knit them up with natural colored merino in a fingering weight just as the originals were. The photos show both the original version and my knitted up version. You can see that the wool of the originals has yellowed a bit over the last 70 odd years.
