This pattern is specifically designed to teach you basic brioche stitches.

Learn three Brioche type stitches in a single shawl.

This is a pattern for a warm brioche pocket shawl that is designed for the intermediate knitter who has never tried brioche knitting but would like to. All of the terms used in the pattern are traditional knitting nomenclature, and not “brioche-speak.” As a result, you will learn both the single, double (honeycomb) brioche stitches as well has how to do a brioche cable, while making a warm and gorgeous shawl. No one will ever know that you are new to brioche knitting.

The sample was made with two strands of yarn held together, Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted (in colorway Geyser) and Knit Picks Aloft (for a softer feel).

The brioche stitch in itself is a softer and puffier stitch, so the additional lace weight yarn only adds to that.

The pocket placement (which guarantees that the shawl will not fall off your shoulder) is clearly outlined in the pattern, as are directions for the optional crocheted edging.

Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming some knowledge of cabling, yo’s and slipping stitches).

The shawl was expertly test knitted by Barbara Robertson, who can be contacted at: Barb. Robertson@gmail.com.
