Warm Hearts Cushion
I designed a pattern of repeating hearts using the overlay mosaic crochet technique. The hearts alternate between the right-way-up and upside down which I thought looked very cute. I thought they would look great on a cushion so I came up with a simple cushion cover pattern to incorporate them. I hope you enjoy making a Warm Hearts cushion!
You will need:
DK weight Yarn
I used Deramores Studio DK;
2 balls of Topaz (yarn A), one ball each of Mustard (yarn B) and Ocean (yarn C)
About the yarn:
100% acrylic, 250m / 273yds per 100g ball
Hooks: 4 mm and 3.5mm
Other materials: 37cm (14.5 inch) or 36cm /14 inch square cushion pad, x5 buttons
Note: I designed my version to fit a 37cm (14.5 inch) cushion pad, however as this is not a standard size you could use a 14 inch (36cm) pad which is more readily available.
Size
37cm x 37cm (approx. 14.5 inches square) once made up
Tension
19 sts and 15 rows = 10cm measured over htr stitches using 3.5mm hook.
The mosaic crochet sections are made in a larger hook (4mm) the sections each measure 7cm in height, (15 rows) 19 sts = 10cm
Construction
The cushion cover is designed to be removable, it fastens at the back with buttons.
Front of cushion:
The front of the cushion cover has two overlay mosaic crochet sections, and the rest is worked in htr (UK) stitches
Back of the cushion:
The back is made in two panels, one with a buttonhole band and the other has buttons sewn on to it for fastening the cushion cover. The back panels are worked in a striped design
If you prefer, you could make the back panel the same as the front panel and join these together for a non-removable cover.
Pattern is written in UK crochet terms, there is a table included to show how these translate into US terms.
There are close up photos to demonstrate the special stitches.
There is also a chart included for the overlay mosaic crochet.
