Warm Lobes Hat
I had been eyeing up this Katia Big Paint yarn for a while and could not decide what colorway to choose. Ultimately, I decided on the neutral 201 color. It spoke to me and I knew I wanted to make a nice warm hat, one that covered the entire ear – no lobes peeking out! Worked from the top down, a variation of a brick stitch is used in the body, the bottom edge is worked through the back loop to bring it in a bit for a snugger fit, and you can add a pompom to the top if you so desire.
Measurements: Hat opening after completion measures approx. 18 inches, the hat body is approx. 20 inches in circumference. It will stretch to up to 24 inches. Hat will fit the average adult head. Hat measures 8.5 inches tall to ensure full ear coverage. Instructions for the gauge check are in the pattern.
Materials:
1 ball of Katia Big Paint (100g, 109yds, 80/20 Acrylic/Wool)
Size M (9mm) crochet hook
yarn needle for weaving in ends
optional – pompom maker
Skills used: magic loop/circle beginning for crochet (though you may simply chain 3 and begin this project in the 3rd chain from the hook), sc, hdc, crochet in the round, stitching into the row below, crochet into back loop.
