Shieldmaidens would braid their hair in elaborate ways as part of a pre-battle ritual.
For this beanie it felt right to invoke a little of that spirit.

Gauge is not particularly important for this project.
A lot of re-sizing and shaping can be achieved through blocking if necessary.
