Warthog Hat
I made this hat to fulfill a last-minute costume requirement for my daughter’s role as the warthog in the school play. I couldn’t find a warthog hat pattern, so I took notes as I crocheted; I hope your warthog experience is easier than mine!
For the main body of the hat, I used two skeins Katia Love Wool 100% Natural (85% virgin wool, 15% alpaca) in color 114. Other components were made with small quantities of black, white, and pink.
This warthog hat is crocheted top down, with ears, eyes, warts, tusks, nose and hair added as finishing touches. You’ll need a 12mm hook for most of the work; An 8mm hook is used to create a denser fabric for some details.
Other materials you’ll need: 2 black buttons for pupils, tapestry needle, stitch marker, stuffing, sewing thread and sewing needle.
This pattern assumes that you’re comfortable with all basic crochet stitches, increasing, decreasing, as well as working front and back loops. Some surface crochet is added for finishing.
