The Wasatch mountain range in the American West is the western-most edge of the Rocky Mountains and marks the beginning of the Great Basin. The intersection of the flat desert basin and the tall mountains provides heavy snowfalls that feed the mountain lakes and rivers. Autumn is an especially beautiful time on the Wasatch Front. Red scrub oak and yellow aspens decorate the rugged glacier-carved peaks providing a contrast to the dusted snow.
