Washing Up
Washing Up is a simple washcloth or dishcloth pattern, easily crocheted by beginners. The texture added by the crunch stitch gives it a bit of scrubbing power without being harsh on your skin or fragile dishes Made in a softer cotton such as Dishie, it’s also wonderful on sensitive skin.
Skill Level:
Beginner
Finished Size:
Approximately 7” to 10” square, depending on yarn and hook choice.
Tools & Materials:
Yarn – Approximately 2 oz (50 gr) of worsted weight cotton yarn. A heavy worsted weight (such as Sugar & Cream) will yield a larger and denser cloth, while a light worsted (such as Dishie) will yield a smaller and softer version.
Hook – US F through J (3.75 - 6mm). Choose the size that matches your yarn and desired use best. I find that a denser fabric works best for scrubbing dishes and countertops in the kitchen, while a looser and softer fabric is desirable for use as a washcloth. The crunch stitch creates a fairly dense fabric, so you may want to use a size or two larger than you typically would. Please remember that 100% cotton will shrink - your cloth will get slightly smaller and denser with use.
Gauge:
Gauge doesn’t matter much so long as you are getting a fabric that you like.
