I chose to use 100% cotton yarn for this project to avoid too much stretch. I love the vibrant colors of Lilly’s Sugar & Cream, but sometimes I just like sticking to white so it can match just about anything I’m wearing. You could choose whatever color you like, of course.
Materials Needed
1 skein of 100% cotton Lilly’s Sugar & Cream in white or color of choice.
Crochet hook that fits your yarn. I used a US size 7, (4.5 mm) hook for this project.
A tapestry needle
A pair of scissors
Water bottle (size of choice) - pattern is written for 750ml (25oz) bottle
Bottle height = 11.8” (30 cm)
Bottle base diameter = 3.1” (8 cm)
Skill Level
Advanced Beginner (If you are going to adjust sizing, then you need to have experience with size adjustment)
Finished Size
Diameter: 4.5” (11.5 cm)
Body length: 10” (25.5cm)
Strap length: 8.6” (22 cm)
Weight: 2.04 oz (58g)
Yardage: 97.5 yards (89.2m)
Remember that the size of your water bottle holder will stretch quite a bit with the weight of a full bottle of water. So keep the strap length on the shorter side to allow for stretching.
Gauge
12 sc and 12 rows with a 4.5 mm crochet hook
Bottom circle should be about 3 inches in diameter, or size needed to fit your water bottle.
You can adjust your gauge by using a smaller or larger hook, or you could use a different weight yarn.
Notes
This crochet water bottle holder is worked from the bottom up in joined rounds.
The strap is worked in turned rows.
Numbers at the end of each round in parentheses ( ) = total number of stitches for that round or row.
Beginning chains count as the first stitch in the round.
You can make the pattern larger (or smaller) by changing the yarn weight and/or hook size, or by adding rounds for the base of the bottle holder (Note that you will have to increase with each round).
Please note that this bottle holder will stretch with use. Mine stretched about 2 inches after a couple of uses carrying around a full water bottle
Ensure that you end up with the same number of stitches after each round.
I use US crochet terms.
