Water Colour Scarf
I designed this scarf to show off the water colour-like nature of hand-dyed yarn. Often I find myself with a beautiful but small amount of hand dyed yarn and feel unsure about how to best showcase the colours. This design allows you to use a small amount of yarn (less than half a skein) paired with a complimentary colour (though I’m sure the same or a contrasting colourway would also work). The lace edge gives a delicate feel, while the asymmetrical design makes the scarf look modern. The scarf involves an easily remembered 5 row repeat, so its construction becomes relaxing and meditative, almost like painting with water colours.
This design is suitable for a confident beginner, as photos and charts are included for additional support. I used a size 4mm crochet hook, but you could easily go up or down a size depending on your tension. This pattern uses US crochet terminology throughout. The following stitches are used:
SS – Slip stitch
Ch – Chain stitch
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet (used in scarf body only)
DC – Double Crochet
