"Water Lily" fingerless mittens
Knitting pattern for “Water Lily” fingerless mittens is a sequel for “Water Lily” sock pattern and “Water Lily” hat pattern. Mittens are very beautiful, full of lace, framed by cables. Not your everyday boring knitting project, but still a quick one to tackle.
About the size of the mittens:
One size fits hands with circumference measurements from 7 inches to 9 inches (17,5 – 23 cm). Ribbing on the palm side of the mittens will make it a very flexible pattern and give the mittens nicely fitted look. That will make the lace pattern even more beautiful.
Length from cast-on to bind-off (without stretching) is about 10.5 inches (26,5 cm). But of course you can choose your own length.
About the tools you need to start knitting:
I used 2 skeins of DROPS Baby Merino (50 g per skein) – that would be about 382 yds. You can substitute it with any soft fingering yarn as long as you get the gauge right.
Also, you’ll need one set US #3 / 3 mm double-pointed needles (or you can use circulars if you’re into that).
And some extra items that may be useful – yarn needle, cable needle, stitch holder or waste yarn and some markers.
Gauge:
25 sts/42rows = 4” (10 x10 cm) in Stockinette stitch knitted in round;
You should know (or willing to learn):
- knit and purl (naturally);
- yarn over;
- knit 2 together and slip, slip, knit together;
- how to make cables – 3/3 cables in this case (to right and left both);
What you’ll get if you decide to invest in this pattern:
- thorough written instructions – instructions are written out so you don’t need to worry about translating charts;
- a chart for the main pattern – there’s a chart with the whole thing, and I also added sheets with that same pattern divided into two, in case you need a bigger printing for chart;
- my help if you should need it
