The pond-lily is a star and easily takes the first place among lilies; and the expeditions to her haunts, and the gathering her where she rocks upon the dark, secluded waters of some pool or lakelet, are the crown and summit of the floral expeditions of summer.
--John Burroughs

This is a pattern for a pair of slippers. Each slipper is worked entirely in the round and using the stranded colourwork technique. The foot/leg opening is created with waste yarn that is removed before working a Tvinnarand braid/plait edge. You may also work your foot opening with a simple rib or with a few additional stockinette rounds before working the braid/plait.

yarn:
Shetland 4ply by Gathered Sheep Yarns; Fingering; 100% Pure Shetland Wool; 233yds (213m) / 55g
approximate yarn amounts:
MC (Stunning Blue) - 17 (22, 26, 36, 40) g; 70 (90, 110, 150, 170) yds/ 64 (83, 101, 129, 156) m
CC (Refreshing) - 14 (19, 24, 33, 38) g; 60 (80, 100, 140, 160) yds/ 55 (74, 92, 129, 147) m
needles:
2.5mm (us no 1.5) DPNs 6in/15cm; set of 5
3.0mm (us no 2.5) DPNs 6in/15cm; set of 5
gauge: 32 sts x 32 rows = 4in/10cm
measured over stranded stockinette on larger needles
Some knitters work stranded and single-coloured at different gauges. Change needles, as needed, to keep gauge the same throughout.
Gauge is important for this project. The entire slipper is charted with a bit of room to remove patterning/length, but more difficult to add length.
approximate finished size:
1 (2, 3, 4, 5)
widest part of foot - 6 (7.25, 8.5, 9.75, 10.5) in in/15 (18.5, 21.5, 24.5, 26.5) cm circumference
length - 7 (8.75, 9.25, 11, 12) in in/17.5 (22, 23.5, 28, 30.5) cm
additional tools:
needle to weave in ends, st marker, waste yarn for foot/leg opening
