This versatile, lacy scarf or wrap goes with all types of outfits, from casual to office to dressy. The lace pattern is not difficult to follow, and instructions are provided in both written and chart form for the 20-row pattern for two weights of yarn, lace and fingering, and for two widths. Instructions are also included for beading your scarf or wrap if desired.

Sizes: Lace-weight: 8½” wide over five pattern repeats as a scarf or 19” wide over twelve repeats as a wrap; the lace-weight wrap shown above is 85” long.

Fingering-weight: 7” wide over four repeats for a scarf or 18” wide over ten repeats for a wrap. The fingering-weight beaded wrap shown is 72” long; and the fingering-weight scarf is 72” long.

Gauge: Swatch and block to determine gauge. After blocking, in pattern, lace weight works up at 23 sts/4” (10 cm) and fingering weight works up at 18-20 sts/4” (10 cm); change needle size if necessary to achieve and maintain gauge.

Yarn: Recommended for most types of yarn except strongly variegated, tweedy, fuzzy, or novelty yarns that will hide the stitch pattern.

Lace-weight: 400 yds (440 m) for a scarf that is 8½” wide by 72” long; 1070 yds (1177 m) for a wrap that is 19” wide by 85” long.

Fingering-weight: 450 yds (495 m) for a scarf that is 7” wide by 72” long; 900 yds (990 m) for a wrap that is 14-15” wide by 72” long (this can be blocked out to about 18* wide).

Needles: For lace-weight yarn, US size 3 (3-3.25 mm) and US size 4 (3.5 mm) 24-32”circular or straights

For fingering-weight, US size 4 (3.5 mm) and US size 5 (3.75 mm) 24-32”circular or straights

For lace-weight yarn or a slick yarn such as silk, choose needles that have some ‘grip’ to them, such as wood, bamboo, or Addi Turbo Lace needles.

Notions: Measuring tape or ruler; tapestry needle; 3 stitch markers; and blocking pins or wires. If beading the scarf or wrap, use size 6 beads and size 7 (1.5 mm) crochet hook for fingering weight or size 8 beads and size 12 (1.0 mm) crochet hook for lace weight. To bead a scarf takes 1,000 or more beads, depending on length; a wrap takes 3-4,000.
