The watermelon dress is a quick knit in DK weight yarn and a fun little outfit for kids aged 0 - 7yrs. It’s knit from the top down with 2 strands of fingering held together for the pink and white neckband and a single strand of DK weight yarn for the waist ribbing and flowing lace sections. No picking up or seaming necessary.

The dress can be easily customized with different waistlines and skirt lengths and the waist ribbing provides a snug fit for growing kids of all shapes and sizes. I-cord edging is used for a nice finishing touch and a small button band at the back helps makes dressing easy.

Guage:
Neckband (in st stitch) with US4 needles: 20sts x 28rows = 4inches after blocking.
Ribbing (2x2) with US6 needles: 22sts x 28 rows = 4 inches after blocking.
Lace pattern with US6 needles: 24sts x 20-25 rows = 4 inches after blocking.
(Note that the lace pattern expands on progressive repeats with the first repeats appearing smaller and closer together because of the 2x2 ribbing. Because of the flowing nature of the skirt obtaining an exact gauge for the lace section is not crucial).

DK weight (or fingering held double) in Pink (Colour A), White (Colour B) and Green (Colour C). Suggested Yarn sample shown in:
A) 1/2 x Skein Madeline Tosh Merino Light Pink Mist Smoke Tree 100g 4oz 384m/420 yrds (or similar fingering weight yarn held doubled)
B) 1 x Unicorn Tail Antler 14g 0.5oz 48m/52 yards (or similar fingering weight yarn held doubled)
C) 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3 x Skeins Madeline Tosh Farm Twist Venti Mocha Dragon. 100g 4oz 205m/225yrds per skein. (or DK weight yarn held single)

Can be substituted for any other fingering and/or DK weight yarn.
