I admire fairisle patterns. I feel they are beautiful and having recently visited Shetland and Fair Isle I hope to design more fairisle patterns. I love simple and easy to knit patterns and traditional fairisle definitely fits that criteria. If you read that and thought, eh, they don’t look easy and simple, once upon a time I agreed with you but a traditional fairisle only uses two colours in a round and keeps the repeats under 5 stitches. If all that still doesn’t make sense then please do start with this Waterston Hat and hopefully you will see that fairisle can be fun!

If you are an experienced fairisle knitter then I’m sure you can see lots of potential in this hat pattern to make it your own with different shades. Please do share with me your creations!

This hat is knitted in the round.

For this pattern I used:
Yarn & Amounts: Two 25g balls of Jamieson’s Spindrift (100% Shetland Wool, 25g, 105m/114yds) in shade A and
One 25g ball each of Jamieson’s Spindrift in shade B.

Needles: 3mm and 3.25mm circular (40cm) needles
and set of 3.25mm double pointed needles.
