Wave
~ Wave ~ is a delicate heart-shaped shawl which uses just one skein of fingering weight yarn. It’s a simple stocking stitch design with written instructions. Sectional increases on right-side rows result in a shawl which sits beautifully on the shoulders and gradually flares out like a wave breaking on the sand.
I used approximately 391.5 yards (358m) for my sample, as I wanted to make the most of a single skein: so make sure you check your gauge - if you are a loose knitter, please purchase more yarn! And you can make the shawl longer, but remember that you will end up with a lot more stitches and a lot more flare!
For substitute yarns, I would suggest any wool, silk, cotton or linen fingering yarn: you will need to lightly steam iron the shawl at the blocking stage, so alpaca, mohair or acrylic yarns are not recommended. The pattern will also work with heavier weight yarns, resulting in a larger shawl: please adjust your needle size accordingly.
