This feat of knitting architecture is possible thanks to the twisted 100% cotton dk yarn worked on small needles, the dense linen stitch, and a carefully calculated structure of increases and decreases. The crown of the hat features a crashing wave pattern that provides just the right balance of ventilation and cooling shade. The crown is worked bottom up in the round with charted and written instructions. The brim is worked outward after picking up stitches from a garter round at the base of the crown. All you need to “block” (and reblock, as needed) is a hot clothes dryer followed by gently shaping the brim while still warm.
