It had been such a mild winter…until February happened. February proved to be the 4th snowiest month on record for this area. Don’t get me wrong – I love snow. I just don’t care much for the snow removal part of the deal. However, the wave of winter we experienced was ideal hookin’ weather! I had a couple of skeins of Malabrigo Worsted in the Hiroshige colorway (631) in my stash. I thought for sure they would become something else, but when I went to my LYS to find a solid to go with it my plans changed. I liked how well the Pearl colorway (036) set off the other, and then I just had a hankering to crochet. But what to create? I love knitting asymmetrical triangles, but what about crocheting one? And then more snow came, and the Wave of Winter Wrap was born!

Materials:
• 2 skeins of Malabrigo Worsted (100g, 210 yds, 100% merino, single ply) in Hiroshige (color 631) or another variegated colorway of your choosing
• 1 skein of Malabrigo Worsted in Pearl (color 036) or other solid colorway to complement the variegated color
• Size L crochet hook (8mm)
• Yarn needle to weave in ends
• (Optional) Locking stitch marker to denote decrease edge

Other suggested yarns:
Of course, any single ply merino equivalent of the Malabrigo Worsted will work great, but I could also see this worked up in a worsted cotton like Plymouth Fantasy Naturale which has a wonderful assortment of variegated and solid options for those of you that don’t do wool, or are looking to change your Wave of Winter to a Wave of Summer!

Measurements:
Gauge is not critical, but fabric should be loose and drapey. I worked 10 stitches over 4” in hdc. If you are an exceptionally tight crocheter I would go up a hook size. Finished wrap is about 7’ (84”/213cm) across longest edge (top).
