CONSTRUCTION
These socks are worked from the cuff down with a heel flap and gusset to make a generous heel. Both the length of the leg and the foot can easily be adjusted. The pattern is written for magic-loop, but you can work them on double pointed needles by distributing your pattern repeats (each repeat is 8 sts) across 3 or 4 needles.
For the pattern to really stand out I recommend the following: A solid-coloured yarn in a light to mid shade if making a single-coloured sock. If you want to make a two-coloured sock, then choose very contrasting colours with no colours in common and use the light/bright shade for the MC as this creates the waveform pattern.
MATERIALS
Sock weight yarn: size medium: 320 m / 350 yds, size large 503 m / 550 yds.
Shown in Miss Babs Putnam: 75% sw-Merino, 25% nylon, 365 m / 400 yds / 110 g / 3.9 oz skein colour Old Gold.
For two colour socks:
MC (grey) size medium: 205 m / 224 yds, size large 324 m / 354 yds.
CC (red) size medium: 114 m / 125 yds, size large 180 m / 197 yds.
Shown in Madelinetosh Sock: 100 % sw-Merino, 361 m / 395 yds / skein; colour Tart and Silver Fox.
Needles and Notions:
You can used DPN’s or circular needles for this project, I recommend a long circular needle to work magic loop.
2.25 mm (US 1) needle(s) for ribbing or 0.25 mm smaller than your main needle.
2.5 mm (US 1½) needle(s) (main needles) or size required to obtain gauge in stockinette st.
Beginning of round stitch marker, 6-8 stitch markers, darning needle to sew in ends.
GAUGE
Using 2.5 mm (US 1½) needles 28 sts x 40 rounds for 10 cm / 4 inches in stockinette st, and approx. 34 sts and 44 rounds in waveform pattern, after washing and drying flat.
SIZE
Sock circumference size medium: 19 cm / 7½ inches, size large: 22.5 cm / 9 inches. Foot length adjustable.
Choose a circumference 2.5 cm/ 1 inch smaller than your foot.
