Wavemaker
’Wavemaker’ was created to show off the beauty of multicolour hand dyed & hand painted skeins, with the use of drop stitches creating a wave pattern, interspersed with rows of plain garter stitch. No purling involved.
I’m partial to bright colours, but the pattern will be just as effective with a more subdued palette.
You will need to know how to cast on, bind off, decrease and how to create yarn overs. Increases occur every row and decreases every other row to create an elongated scalene triangle measuring 275cm (base) along the longest side, by 185cm by 115cm. Depth from apex to base is 50cm. Size can be adapted easily by omitting/adding pattern repeats.
Gauge is 24 stitches by 28 rows in unblocked garter stitch, knit flat. Gauge is not critical, but will affect the finished dimensions and amount of yarn used.
I used two skeins of light fingering weight yarn (425m/465 yards each), one a semi solid and one a multi and had leftovers. Additionally a 3.75mm (US 5) circular needle (100cm/40”) to knit, and a 4.5mm (US 7) needle to bind off.
Yarns used: ‘Riah’ & ‘Mist’ from BonaYarns.com & ‘Monster Mash’ & ‘Platinum’ from TedknitsUK
