This hat pattern is intended to provide instruction for knitters who like support when attempting a new skill. For that reason, I’ve included a number of photos illustrating the different steps. The cables are simple and straightforward, perfect for a first time cable knitter to learn how it works.

The pattern for this hat is written in a tutorial format for using the magic loop technique, with a lot of photos to illustrate different steps along the way. The hat does not need to be knit using magic loop, however, and the test knitters have utilized a variety of methods to knit the hat. Please feel free to browse through their project pages to view their notes.

Although not required, using interchangeable needles makes knitting this hat a lot easier when using the magic loop technique.

This is a stretchy hat, and the gauge is not critical. You can increase or decrease the size of the hat by adding or removing 10 stitches at a time. This is an easy change to make and will preserve the pattern.
