Wavewalking Socks
Wavewalking Socks came about when I wanted to knit a simple cabled sock that would show up well in a hand dyed variegated yarn. Being a boat-dweller, the pattern reminded me that I am always walking on waves! Choose your own favourite hand dyed yarn and clothe your feet in cosy colours :-)
The socks knit up quickly with the interest of the eyelet cable to keep you going. You can choose whether to have a plain cuff or make a feature of the eyelet ribbing. And the best thing is, the pattern is written toe up and top down, so you can make these no matter what your preferred method is! Both versions recommend the Fish Lips Kiss Heel from Sox Therapist (I can’t recommend it highly enough), but there are also instructions for a regular short row toe and heel (toe up) and a flap and gusset heel (cuff down). The stitch patterns are both charted and written out in full.
The pattern includes a tutorial for a provisional cast on, for the short row toe. Here are some links to other techniques used in the pattern:

Ysolda: Cabling without Cable Needle - not necessary for this pattern, but it will speed things up, and it’s another skill worth learning :-)
