The Waving Through a Window Shawl is named for the song from Dear Evan Hansen the musical. The song is about struggling with social anxiety and loneliness, and the shawl is about the ways we can counteract those feelings. When we tap on the glass, there are fellow yarnies that wave back with kindness, support, and positivity. It’s one of the biggest gifts we can give another person - if someone’s waving through a window, we should always wave back whenever possible. We’re better when we care for each other.

Yarn, Yardage, and Colors
420yds/384m/160g DK weight yarn total; 263yds/240m/100g of color A and 157yds/134m/60g of color B

The sample is worked in a DK weight, but the pattern works well in anything from a lace to aran weight. It’s easily adjustable and can be worked to any yardage or size. The pattern calls for two colors and the contrast means it works well with any combination of color styles. It can also be worked in just one color and pairs well with a solid, semi-solid, speckled, or gradient yarn.

Skills Required
sc, dc, ch, sk sts, working flat, working into the ch-space, changing colors, carrying colors up the side (optional)

Construction
The shawl is worked in one piece from the top-down. The edging is built into the stitch pattern and worked directly from the shawl.

Modifications and Adjustments
Notes are included for adjusting the following: making the shawl bigger/smaller; working it in just one color; optional border to hide the colors carried up the side

Overview of the Finished Object
The shawl is a top down triangle, with allover lace. There are increases at the center and edges, the increases are worked in pattern. The pattern alternates solid purple with a variegated purple as stripes - the variegated is the lacier part of the stitch pattern, while the solid is the more solid part of the pattern.
