This is an Intermediate level groovy crochet bag pattern! This pattern is made-to-measure which means that you can use any yarn weight and hook combination that you would like to make the bag any size you desire! You can also intentionally choose to match the yarn weight you use for your bag to one of this pattern’s sister hat designs to create matching accessories. To match the Wavy Days Bucket Hat use worsted weight yarn and to match the Crochet Version of the Wavy Days Beanie use bulky weight yarn (a bundle of all 3 crochet Wavy Days Patterns that I have written is available only on my Etsy page at 25% off when compared to purchasing the patterns individually) A bonus of a made-to-measure bag pattern is that no gauge swatch is necessary! That starting chain will be slightly smaller than the finished size of the bag so you can easily tell what the size of your bag will be without any complicated gauge based calculations. But if you would like there is the option to swatch and match the gauge of my green sample bag (Dimensions: 11 in (28 cm) wide by 10 in (25.5 cm) tall) This size will be referred to as the “set size” in the pattern. Another feature of this bag pattern is instructions are included for 2 different styles of straps (that vary in width) that are both stretch resistant because of the construction! And because it has no increases or decreases in the colorwork section of the a bag this pattern is the perfect pattern to start with if you have never done colorwork before!

Techniques used:
Back loop tapestry crochet
Crocheting in the round
Reading colorwork charts (written instructions for all of the colorwork is also included)
Basic sewing with a tapestry needle to attach the crocheted straps to your bag

Materials:
Hook Size: 4.5 mm (US 7) or the hook size recommended for the yarn weight you are using on your yarn label
Yarn: 2 colors of worsted weight yarn or your chosen yarn weight.
For the “set size” you will need approx. 164.5 m/99.2 g/180 yds/2.5 oz of each color. The patterns set size sample was made with ‘I love this cotton’. For the best results at least one of the colors should be a solid color and the darker of the two colors should be used as color A. Cotton yarn is strongly recommended, however if you are choosing to line your bag with a sturdy fabric you can use any fiber type.
Note: I am not good at sewing so I have only included a link to the video tutorial I learned how to line bags from. There are no instructions for sewing a lining in this pattern PDF. If you are going to be making a larger bag that you intend to use to carry heavier items like books I would strongly recommend that you line it (even if you are using cotton yarn) to avoid stretching the stitches. Both strap options are designed to not stretch at all but I would also recommend making the thicker strap if you are intending on carrying heavy things in your bag.
Other supplies:
Scissors to cut your yarn
Tapestry needle
2 Removeable stitch markers
Fabric lining supplies (optional!)

A huge shoutout to everyone on the testing team! Without their help I could not have released this pattern! If you would like to see more of their beautiful work, you can check them out on Instagram and see everyone’s photos in the testing gallery that’s included in the pattern :-)
