Wavy Filet Lace and Diagonal Picot Edging
Enhance a table runner with a crocheted wavy filet lace inset and diagonal picot edging.
The wavy filet lace inset is worked in mesh and blocks of extended double crochet.
The diagonal trim is in extended half double crochet with a picot edging.
These easy-to-make designs in mercerised cotton are inspired by lace made in Greece by a friend of my mother’s in the 1960s.
Charts and instructions for filet crochet lace inset and diagonal picot edging - and how to make the table runner in kitchen towel fabric (available in various colorways and weights and prehemmed on long sides from Hart’s fabric store online.)
Gauge with #10 mercerised cotton thread once washed and blocked is 14 x 14 blocks/mesh of filet crochet over extended double crochet stitch using a 1.25 mm hook.
Change your hook to get the correct gauge. Note also that the cotton thread will likely shrink and even out after washing and blocking. Please measure your gauge swatch after you wet-block and dry swatch to shape.
