In knitting, the welt stitch is the horizontal equivalent of the rib stitch. It is created by working one or more horizontal rows of knit stitches alternating with one or more rows of purl stitches. Joined in the round, it creates a soft and stretchy cowl and/or infinity scarf depending on the length chosen.
Many variations of this stitch have been offered in other patterns. This handout gives you my hints and tips for creating a fabric that is stretchy, totally reversible and symmetrical.
Though directions for the infinity scarf pictured are given, you are encouraged to become your own designer by varying the stitch count, width of welts, needle size and yarns.
