Are you a gardener or a movie buff? Either way you’ll love the sweet peas and carrots motifs on these socks. Make a pair of either or one of each.

The yarn I used for this pattern is quite luxurious. The alpaca blooms beautifully to give you a very soft fabric, it’s like slipping your foot into a cloud. Perfect for wearing while watching your favourite movies or reading a great book. I chose this yarn because of the earthy tones in each colour but this pattern would be great as a stash buster and for using up small odds and ends.

These socks are knit cuff down, increasing sts and changing needle size for the colourwork to accommodate the less stretchy fabric of stranded knitting. If your gauge is the same for both stranded and plain stockinette then switching needles will not be necessary. I still recommend increasing the stitches.

I started with a US 1 (2.25mm) needle and increased to a US 1½ (2.5mm) for the colourwork. Many sock knitters have specific needle sizes they always use for making socks. I choose my needle sizes depending on the fabric a particular yarn will give me.
The heel is an eye of partridge design, the peas and carrots at the toes add a bit more whimsy, and the toe is stitched together with Kitchener stitch.

Approx. circumference in stocking stitch, not stretched: 6¼ (7, 8, 9) inches/15.5 (17.5, 20, 22.5) cm
Approx. circumference in stranded, not stretched: 7 (8, 9, 10) inches/17.5 (20, 22.5, 25) cm
