ERRATA: posted on the project’s page.

Written instructions for the foot part contain one mistake.
* round 6 (Foot part, page 4.) should look the same as the previous and next round i.e. the 5th and the 7th).

“Wealthy peasant’s socks” is a pair of toe-up socks with the first round of stitches cast on using the Turkish cast-on method. For the knitters who are not familiar with this CO method, a short photo-tutorial is included into the pattern.

The heel is turned using the slip stitch short row method.

I believe that turning the pattern into a cuff-down version should not be too much of a problem for an experienced sock-knitter.
The socks are made with heavy weight aran/worsted yarn which makes them a very flexible pair of socks. Suggested needle size span is 4,5mm-5,5mm (or different to obtain the gauge).

The number of rows neccessary to obtain the correct lenght of the foot part is very customisable.
The bulky style of this pair of socks basically qualifies them as a good substitution for slippers rather than socks that can be worn in shoes. For that reason- this pattern offers instructions for only two main sizes.
Suggestions for adjusting the lenght of the sock are included.
No additional material needed.

My suggestion is to work with 2 circular needles. In case you prefer working with DPNs- feel free to use more than 3 (like suggested in the instructions) by dividing the stitches for the sole part onto two needles.

This patterns includes:

  • stitch pattern charts
  • written instructions for two main sizes:

Size 1: (women’s socks) EUR 36-38.5 / US 5.5-7.5 / UK 3-5/ cm 22.5-24.5

Size 2: (women’s socks) EUR 39- 41 / US 8-9.5 / UK 5.5-7 / cm 25-26.5

  • short instructions on how to adjust the pattern for medium size men’s foot.

  • Turkish cast-on instructions with pictures

This pattern is highly recomendable for first-time sock knitters!

Happy sock-knitting!
