Wedding Socks
This pattern is for two pair of socks -- a Groom’s Pair and a Bride’s Pair. I used the DK Sport Weight for the Groom’s socks; and the Stroll Fingering weight for the Bride’s. The socks are very similar in construction except for the very top of the leg where the Groom’s have a substantial textured top and the Bride’s have a delicate lace from around the 1880’s.
I like to make socks as a wedding gift. It is personal without being “too” personal, and I like to make them using my Great-great-grandmother’s steel knitting needles which are approximately a size 2. This way I reach across the generations going forward and backward and knit the new member (in this case the Bride) into the family.
The Groom Socks were made in size 13 (I come from the land of the Yeti) and took just a bit more than 3 skeins of the KnitPicks DK in Heather Grey. The gauge for the Groom’s socks was 7/inch in stockinette, 10/inch in Garter Stitch Rib unstretched.
The Bride socks were made in a reasonable size 7-8 and the 100 gram skein of Stroll in Pearlescent Heather was ample.
The gauge for the Bride socks was 9/inch in stockinette, 10/inch in Garter Stitch Rib unstretched.
