“Wee Hoose” Ulster-Scots dialect for: small house
The Wee Hoose Socks are knit from the toe up in broken rib with colourwork around the top of the leg before the cuff. It seemed only right that this “Wee Hoose” motif should find itself on a pair of cozy socks.
The pattern has a wedge toe and a Wrap and Turn short row heel, however the heel and toe can be changed to your own choice. They are knit using the magic loop method but can be adapted to suit dpns.
The pattern has full written instruction and charts for the colourwork.
Sizes: Small 7”/18cm foot circumference
Medium 8”/20cm foot circumference
Large 9”/23cm foot circumference
Foot and leg length can be easily adjusted.
(Guide Note: the larger stitch count is to accommodate the colourwork. The medium size equates to how a 64 stitch fingering weight sock would usually fit.)
Needles: 3 mm (US2.5) circular needles or dpns
3.75mm (US5) circular needles or dpns - for colourwork
(or size needed to get gauge).
Gauge: 24 sts x 28 rows per 4 inches using 3 mm (US2.5) needle
24 sts x 28 rows per 4 inches using 3.75 mm (US5) needle for colourwork
Yarn: DK sock yarn, approximately 80 (90) 100g MC and 10g CC for colourwork
The yarn used for the sample socks is Folklore Yarns Faerie Folk Donegal Mohair Tweed 100g (240 yds/ 220 m).
The medium size used (approx.) MC - 80g : 2637 Lir and CC for Colourwork - 10g : 2601 Failinis.
