I designed this toddler’s fisherman’s sweater to use traditional stitch patterns from Orkney, Scotland (based on Elizabeth Lovick’s book Patterns for North Ronaldsay Yarn) and yarn from a local primitive breed sheep on the island of Papa Westray (“Holmie ‘oo’”), which is only available on the island. My pattern suggested alternative yarns of 4 (50g) balls of Rowan Scottish Tweed DK, or 5 (50g) balls of Debbie Bliss Luxury Tweed Aran (from the yarn store I was working in at the time), even though they are not usually the same gauge. I’ve recommended newer yarns on this Ravelry listing. My gauge fits the pattern chart with numbered rows and is only sized for a 24” chest (~ size 2). You may try changing the size with smaller or larger needles and yarns, but I won’t be editing the pattern for multiple sizes for a while (more math than you’d think!). I have taught several classes for this pattern and students love it!
