“Weeds” is a stranded color work mitten featuring a seed stitch cuff, purl stitch accents at the fingertips and a seed-like motif on the palm – weeds have lots of seeds after all. It is sized to fit an average adult hand measuring 8 inches around. The mitten is 11 inches long from fingertip to the edge of the cuff. The sample was knit in Jamieson’s Spindrift. Two balls for the cuff and pattern, and one ball for the background were used.

With mitten patterns springing up like – well – Weeds, what makes this pattern different? The thumb gusset design virtually eliminates the pull or gap that can occur at the corners where the thumb meets the body of the mitten.

The pattern includes written instructions and tips for increasing in the gusset area. The mitten thumb, front and both right and left palm are fully charted.

To enjoy knitting this pattern you should be comfortable knitting color work in the round using double pointed needles. There are a few rows where you may want to secure floats.
