There are three reasons why I love this simple stocking - it’s knitted on chunky needles so it can be finished in a weekend (hence the name). Additionally every other row is a knit row, so knitting it is pretty mindless and can be accomplished while conversing with others or watching a movie. And finally, this stocking is made of a single skein of Luff which makes the cables extra squishy while providing enough structure to hold the contents of the stocking.

I do not recommend knitting a swatch for this. Channel your inner Elizabeth Zimmermann - do the cables feel too tight after the first two crossed? Go up a needle size. Seeing big gaps between stitches? Go down a needle size. In general size US 8-9 will work. The yarn will bloom when blocked and will take care of some of the unevenness which is normal while knitting cables.
