These Tunisian Karuselli socks are my experiment to ‘translate’ the knitting pattern by Kati Koitto to a Tunisian crochet pattern.

The original pattern is called Carousel socks (Hipsulaisen Karuselli) and can be found as a free pattern on Ravelry:

Iman was the one who called them ”Weirdos” first because they really look weird when you lay them flat - and everyone in the Haaksteek Team agreed on that name at once - that’s how they got their name!

You can decide what type of sock you want to make:
● If you want thick, sturdy winter socks, take 6ply sock yarn.
● If you want thin summer socks, take 4ply sock yarn.

The pattern, the stitch numbers and the hook sizes are the same for both types of socks!

The pattern is a kind of ‘basic recipe’ - as foot sizes and shapes can differ as well as the chosen yarn and your working tension, you may need to make some adaptations to it.
I’ll give you my stitch numbers, yours may differ!

That’s what you’ll need:

6ply sock yarn
Up to size 39 DE:
150 g 6ply sock yarn (280m / 100 g),
2 separate balls in 1 or 2 colors.

4ply sock yarn
Up to size 41 DE:
140 g 4ply sock yarn (400 - 420m / 100 g),
2 separate balls in 1 or 2 colors.

If you want to make a larger size, you’ll
need more yarn.

● double-ended Tunisian crochet hooks in sizes:
4 / 5 mm, 5 / 6 mm, 6 / 7 mm
● crochet hooks in sizes 5.0 and 4.0 mm
● stitch markers

For a pair of comfortably fitting socks in shoe
size 40 I needed:
55 g color A, 40 g color B

Gauges for the different parts of the sock are given.

The pattern is made as a photo tutorial that leads you through every single step in detail.

Du entscheidest, welche Art Socken du häkeln möchtest:
● Wenn du dicke, robuste Wintersocken machen möchtest, nimm 6fach Sockenwolle.
● Wenn du dünnere Sommersocken machen möchtest, nimm 4fach Sockenwolle.

Die Anleitung, die Maschenzahlen und die verwendeten Häkelnadel-Stärken sind für beide Arten Socken gleich!

Die Anleitung ist eine Art ‘Grundrezept’ - Fußgrößen und -formen unterscheiden sich genauso wie das von dir gewählte Garn und deine Garnspannung; du kannst die Anleitung auf dich anpassen. Ich gebe dir meine Maschenzahlen vor, deine können aber
davon abweichen!

Das benötigst du:

6fach Sockenwolle
Bis etwa Schuhgröße 39:
150 g 6fach Sockenwolle (280m / 100 g),
2 einzelne Knäule in 1 oder 2 Farben.

4fach Sockenwolle
Bis ca. Schuhgröße 41:
140 g 4fach Sockenwolle (400 - 420m / 100 g),
2 einzelne Knäule in 1 oder 2 Farben.

Für größere Größen benötigst du mehr Garn.

● doppelseitige tunesische Häkelnadeln in
den Stärken: 4 / 5 mm, 5 / 6 mm, 6 / 7 mm
● Häkelnadeln in den Stärken 5.0 und 4.0
mm
● Maschenmarkierer

Verbrauch für ein Paar Socken mit bequemer Passform in Schuhgröße 40:
55 g Farbe A, 40 g Farbe B

Für die verschiedenen Abschnitte der Socke werden jeweils Maschenproben angegeben.
