Weldon's Cherry Leaf Border
This reversible Victorian edging had no image with the pattern but it had “leaf” in the title, so I had to try it. I’m glad I did! From ca. 1889 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 2, p.14, the edging starts with 24 stitches and has a 12-row repeat. Every row is a “fancy” row but half the rows aren’t that bad: there’s a long string of knit stitches in each of them.
The swatch is 4 inches wide at gauge to the tip of a leaf. Once familiar with the pattern, it took me about 15 minutes to knit one 12-row repeat of this border.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, YO twice, k2tog, p2tog and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
56 yards of #10 crochet thread will make 10 inches of Cherry Leaf Border at gauge.
