Weldon's Clover Powdering
Clover Powdering: what a name! The pattern is from Weldon’s Practical Needlework, Volume 9, p.12, ca. 1896. This sweet, simple pattern is useful for many things. I turned it into an afghan strip but use it however you like. There are 16 pattern rows but the 8 wrong-side rows are purl across and 4 right-side rows are knit across. That leaves only FOUR “fancy” rows to work!
The sample is 4 inches wide with three 8-stitch repeats across + 9 edge stitches.
Skills needed: cast on, slip purl-wise, knit, purl, yarn over, SSK, k2tog and bind off in rib stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able thread/yarn will work. Make a swatch to check size and appearance.
90 yards of #10 crochet cotton thread will make about 20” of a 33-stitch strip in the stated gauge.
