Weldons Fascinator
Volunteer Editors Please Respect Me
I often use vintage yarns or threads that are NOT in ravelry’s database. I have still entered them and they are not linked. Or I put in information that may not have been available because ravelry changes it’s options over time. If you feel that a change is needed to my pattern page, PLEASE PM ME ON RAVELRY. Please respect me and do NOT change the information here.
For example, in this page, the volunteer editor changed the thread from “J&P Coats Silk Finish Crochet Cotton (#10 weight)” to Royale #3 weight. This alters the pattern significantly. No one informed me that she did this. This is why I feel the need to put this at the top of every one of my pattern pages.
Please respect me and send me a PM. Please do not change my pattern pages.
This fascinator is faithfully reproduced from Weldon’s Practical Crochet (Fourteenth Series), How to Crochet Useful Articles for Home and Personal Adornment published in the late 1800s. The pattern has been updated to today’s crochet terminology and includes charts. I think you will find this pattern as delightful as I do.
The fascinator as described in the pattern can be worked with thicker wool or continued to a larger size. This pattern would make a lovely shoulder shawl with ties. Such a wonderfully adaptable pattern. Originally intended as a head scarf…… how will you wear it?
The pattern introduces a “tuft” stitch.
This is a very simple pattern and is easily customized to fit the yarn you choose and the size you want. The basic shape is a square with ornamental ties.
