Weldon's Fleur-de-Lis Edging
Here’s another nice edging from 1889 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, Volume 2 that had no original image! This edging actually makes a small (windblown) fleur-de-lis! The pattern starts with just 14 stitches, increases slowly to 19, then returns to 14 stitches on the last (12th) pattern row. I changed stitches to create a selvage for easier sewing later.
Skills needed: long-tail cast on, knit, purl, slip, k2tog, p2tog, k3tog, p3tog, SK2P (sl1, k2tog, PSSO) yarn over, yarn over at beginning of a row and bind off in purl stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check size and appearance.
4 yards will make about 18 rows (1.5 inches) in Fleur-de-Lis border pattern with #10 crochet cotton thread in the stated gauge.
