Weldon's Jersey
This very simple pattern is from ca. 1893 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 6, p.7. Weldon used it for a Jersey sweater. There are only 2 pattern rows and 1 of the rows is “knit across”. The other row is a multiple of 5 stitches + 4 extra stitches. The knitted fabric tends to fold along the stockinette stitch columns, making this pattern useful for 3D knitting or amigurumi. The tendency to fold can be corrected with blocking as shown above. Add selvages, if needed.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
75 yards of Cascade Yarn’s ReFine yarn will make 10 inches of a 29-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
