Here’s another mystery edging from 1889 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, Volume 2 that had no original image! This reversible, almost all-garter-stitch edging has no header. I changed 2 stitches to make a selvage for ease of sewing later. There are 20 pattern rows but they’re very simple and repetitive. All the even-numbered rows are just knit and purl. 13 stitches are cast on, increasing by 1 stitch every other row to 18 stitches before decreasing back to 13 stitches. The changing stitch count makes it easy to keep track of which row you’re on.
This edging is great for projects that need a not-too-frilly finished edge.
Skills needed: long-tail cast on, slip, knit, purl, yarn over twice, k2tog and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check size and appearance.

4 yards will make about 19 rows (1.4 inches) with #10 crochet cotton thread in the stated gauge.
