This small, easy block from ca. 1892 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 5, pp.6-8 is so predictable, you might not need the pattern after the first block! There are 66 rows but the last half of the block (the welts) goes quickly. At gauge, the mouse block is only 3” square! If preferred, work the mouse’s center stitch differently to turn it into a leaf.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, p2tog and SK2P.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

24 yards of #10 crochet thread will make a Mouse block at gauge. 96 yards will make a 4-mouse block.
